Local organizations are often responsible for the management of salmon rivers. Salmon fishing means fishing for salmon, sea trout and arctic char. In the salmon rivers special rules apply. You must purchase a fishing permit for the individual river, and in addition you need to pay the national fishing license fee.
In Porsanger you can catch salmon in four rivers; Stabburselva, Lakselva, Børselva and Ytre Billefjordelva.
Disinfection
The salmon parasite Gyrodactylus Salaris is not present in Finnmark. To avoid spreading this parasite to the county, Finnmark Estate Agency (FeFo) requires disinfection of all your fishing gear (rod, line, vaders etc.). Disinfection can be done at Stabbursnes Naturhus and Museum for a minor fee.
